In 1875 Taylor County was formed from Clark, Lincoln, Marathon, and Chippewa Counties. It is currently bounded by Price and Rusk county on the north, Rusk and Chippewa counties on the west, Clark and Marathon on the south and Marathon and Lincoln on the east.

Birth, Marraige, Death, and Indian record from 1875 are maintained by the Registrar of Deeds. Divorce, and Civil Court records are maintained by the Court Clerk. Probate records are maintained by the Judges office.
